Intervals (10 x 800) - 08/21/2007

I haven’t done this workout since June. I’ve sort-of been avoiding it because, frankly, it hurts. It actually didn’t feel too bad today. I usually walk a 200 between each interval. Today I used the heartrate monitor to determine the rest interval between the 800’s. As soon as I got my bpm back down to 130-135 I started the next 800. It turned out to be roughly 100m walk between each 800. Two miles of warm up and an additional two miles of cooldown gave me an even ten miles for the workout.

Good effort - that’s quite a tough pace you’re holding.

I’ve had a great idea - lets start a club for people who avoid intervals, even though they know how good they are for you. We’d have two members right away!

Nice work! It’s good inspiration to see someone doing intervals. I especially like the use of the HRM to dictate your rest time. Did you feel that this was a good way to go (probably harder for sure).

A favorite workout of mine used to be: 400, 800, 1200, 1600, 1200, 800, 400. Every Wednesday I tell myself I’m going to do this workout, but find a reason to sleep in and do something easy during lunch instead.

Intervals are tough but I always feel good after completing the workout. I can tell from looking at my max heartrate on these that I was holding back a bit to avoid the pain, but I still think it was a good workout.

I did like using the heart-rate monitor to determine the rest interval. I think if I rest too long between the hard efforts my legs forget the fast turnover and want to keep going at the slow pace. The shorter rest kept everything flowing.
