I did something yesterday that caused my si joint to slip. It’s excruciating when it happens and can sometimes be difficult to get it move back into the right place. I went to the track this morning with the hope that a good warm up would loosen things up enough that I would be able to get in my interval workout but after three miles I decided that it was getting worse instead of better and gave up on the workout. I spent a little over an hour on the treadmill this evening trying to get it to loosen up. It’s feeling a little better now so I hope tomorrow it will be back to normal.

Run with Diane - 08/25/2007

After yesterday’s effort, I planned on taking Saturday off but Diane talked me into a short run. Actually, she didn’t have to try very hard to talk me into it - I like running with Diane.

From our campsite, we headed up the road towards Chatter creek - all uphill for the first 1.5 miles and then all down hill on the way home. Great run Diane!! :)

Long Run - 08/24/2007

We’re going to be camping again this weekend and I didn’t want to have to worry about fitting in a 20 mile run so I got up “stupid” early this morning so that I could fit it in before work. Other than having to get up so early, I enjoyed the run - it’s very peaceful running through town at 4 am.

This was back to back hard efforts for me. I think doing long runs on tired legs is good marathon preparation - I also think it’s a good way to get injured. Depending on how my recovery goes, I may try to fit in more Friday morning long runs.

I haven’t done this workout since June. I’ve sort-of been avoiding it because, frankly, it hurts. It actually didn’t feel too bad today. I usually walk a 200 between each interval. Today I used the heartrate monitor to determine the rest interval between the 800’s. As soon as I got my bpm back down to 130-135 I started the next 800. It turned out to be roughly 100m walk between each 800. Two miles of warm up and an additional two miles of cooldown gave me an even ten miles for the workout.

My sudden mileage increase has left me a bit sore in the hip-flexor area. I’m not used to the pounding rigors of a seven day running schedule any more. I probably made the wrong decision in heading out for a run this morning, but it was still dark when I left the house and I didn’t feel like cycling in the dark.

I gained five pounds while on vacation, which is a sure sign that we had a good vacation - but is probably not helping my knees or hip-flexors. I slept better in the week that we were camping than I have in months. Unfortunately, since returning, I have already fallen back into my insomniac ways.

Back from Vacation - 08/18/2007

We’re back from vacation and we had a fantastic time. Whidbey Island has become a family favorite for us. We have spent at least a portion of our vacation on the island for the past three years. This year we camped at South Whidbey State Park for the entire week. I like to travel and see lots of things, but it was pretty relaxing this year to set up camp in the same spot for the entire week. We did do lots of day-trip site-seeing adventures. But, for the most part it was pure R & R.

I did manage to sneak out each morning for an easy 10 mile run. I love running on Whidbey Island - lots of quiet, tree-lined roads with a fresh ocean breeze. It’s very spiritual to me.
